Howard Gene Lowery

Howard Gene Lowery died Oct. 25, 2014, after a long struggle with a rare lung disease. He passed away while taking his dog for a run outside, while riding his scooter. He lay down to rest under some huge oaks, and just quietly left us.

Howard was born July 25, 1939. He was most of all a family man, and a Christian. He was a respected educator in the state of Alaska, and a leader in vocational education. He taught for more than 40 years in Alaska, at nearly every level, from elementary school to master’s programs. He taught many years at Wasilla High, and was a vocational director for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. He was active in leadership and worship activities in Wasilla First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Rotary, and worked with Habitat for Humanity. He loved to fish and hunt in Alaska’s great land.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Jo Lowery; daughter, Tara Rolstad, her husband, David, and their boys, Connor, Aidan, and Finn; three granddaughters by his son Scott, Crystal, Kimberly and Laura; his brothers, Kenneth (Elaine) Lowery and Charles (Susan) Lowery; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his son, Scott Lowery; his parents, Naomi and Marion Lowery; and his brother, Jerald Lowery.

Memorial services were held at Lake Grove Presbyterian Church in Lake Oswego, Oregon. The family will conduct dispersal of his ashes at a later time.

Memorial contributions can be made to Habitat for Humanity, Wasilla, or World Vision.

Arrangements were through Autumn Funeral Home.
