Iris Ruth Barbier Jones (Aug 27, 1930 — April 7, 2017)

Iris Jones, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She is preceded in death by her husband Lee and their son Karl. She is survived by her son Kirk and his wife Sandy, her son Clifford, her stepchildren, whom she loved as her own, Nancy, Casey and his wife Ann, grandchildren Whitney, Adam, Kelly, Cliff, Caleb, and six great-grandchildren.

Iris was born in Troy, NY, and resided in Lathem Circle, NY, until age five. Her family moved to New Orleans where she grew up, later attending LSU and moving to Houston, as a young woman. She met and married Lee Wendell Jones in Houston, where they raised their family. On retirement, Iris and Lee moved to Colorado, where Iris lived 23 years.

Iris was active in her church communities, PTAs and supporting her family’s activities. She loved to sing, dance, laugh and garden. Iris adored her husband and reveled in children, cats and dogs. Iris will be remembered for her infectious giggle, twinkling blue eyes, and sincere, compassionate love.

A New Orleans Jazz Memorial Celebration of Iris’s life will be held at 2:00 April 29 at Brookdale Monument Valley Park assisted living residence, 10 West Monument Street, Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Alzheimer’s research and/or visit a local Alzheimer’s care residence.
