Kathryn Stuart

Kathryn Stuart passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the age of 101. She was born on November 21, 1913, in Alma, Kansas. She graduated from Topeka High School and Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. She was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority and she continued to support their School for the Blind in Denver, Colorado. She married Malcolm Stuart in 1935 and they were married for 63 years. They raised their family in Lakewood, Colorado. They retired in Columbia, California, and lived there until they came back to Colorado in 1994. Kathryn spent 20 years volunteering in the Parachute/Battlement Mesa area at the Visitors’ Cabin, Mesa Vista Assisted Living, Columbine Home Health, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. P.E.O. was an important part of Kathryn’s life of which she was a member for 83 years. She chartered several chapters including Chapter IP in Battlement Mesa. She was a member of the Grand Valley United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters Sarah (Lyle) Oliver of Silt and Cynthia (Joe) Kelly of Broomfield, Colorado; grandchildren Doug (Glenda) Oliver of New Castle, Kim Oliver of Silt, and Ione (Chad) Vanek of Elizabeth, Colorado; great grandchildren Wyatt and Grace Oliver of New Castle and Cash, Cord, and Clay Vanek of Elizabeth. A private family service will be held this summer. Donations may be made to the Activities Department at Mesa Vista Assisted Living where Kathryn spent the last two years of her life.
