Lawrence William Borgard (March 14, 1941 — June 14, 2017)

Lawrence William Borgard, 76, of New Castle passed away June 14, 2017, with his sons at his side. Larry arrived March 14, 1941, in St. Louis to Herman and Kathyleen Borgard. As the oldest of nine in a financially strapped Catholic family, Larry learned responsibility early on. He adored and protected his siblings, and carried that devotion to his marriage to Katherine Diane (Amoss). Despite numerous hardships, their optimistic spirit and strong bond never wavered.
As a father, Larry was hands-on. He coached his sons, was a longtime Scoutmaster, and loved to take the family on trips around Western Colorado, usually 4-wheeling. As a friend, Larry would give you the shirt off his back. He helped literally thousands of people during his life through his volunteer work, including his many years in Lions Club.
Larry is survived by his three sons, Chris (Stacey), Mark (Liz) and Craig Borgard; eight brothers and sisters; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his wife, Diane, and his parents. Larry donated his body to science.
A memorial will be held in New Castle at a later date. You can honor Larry by volunteering in your community.
