Levy ‘Elwood’ Burris

Levy “Elwood” Burris passed away Oct. 29, 2013, at HopeWest Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction. He was 82.

Levy was born Oct. 23, 1931, in Doctor’s Inlet, Florida, to Margie and Levy Burris. Levy was a certified mechanic and spent time in the US Army Active Reserves and as a mechanical instructor in Liberia, West Africa, and in Saudi Arabia, as well as, at one time, owning his own garage. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling as well as just visiting with friends and family. He was a Past Master of Rifle Lodge, # 129, A.F. & A. M., a Past Patron of Palisade Chapter, # 90, O.E.S., and a member of Grand Junction Consistory, El Jebel Temple Shrine, and Western Colorado Shrine Club. He was a member of Palisade United Methodist Church.

Levy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nina; daughters, Lynn and Debbie; son, Levy (Jacque) Burris, Jr. of Silt; stepson, Jerry (Michele) Reece of Fruita; daughter, Cheryle (George) Delahanty of Palisade; four grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at the Palisade Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, beginning at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Palisade United Methodist Church, PO Box L, Palisade, Colorado, 81526, or to HopeWest Hospice, 3090 B N. 12th St., Grand Junction, Colorado, 81506.
