It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Christopher William Anthony Black on January 5th, 2025.
Christopher brought great passion and a desire to excel in his life. The more difficult the challenge, the more he embraced it. His smile and laughter will always stay in our memories. Chris had enormous love for his family and friends. All were lifted by his very presence.
Christopher was born in Aspen on July 31st, 1986. He graduated Basalt High School in 2004 and joined the Marines in 2005. He served eight years and three combat tours, becoming an elite Reconnaissance team leader. In Somalia, Chris witnessed people dying for want of basic medical aid and consequently left a promising military career to pursue a college education focused on medicine. Chris graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Integrative Physiology and earned a Master of Science in Health Services from Montana State University.
Christopher worked as an EMT in Denver and Bozeman, as an emergency room technician at Madison Valley Medical Center, and as a ski patrolman at Bridger Bowl and Big Sky Resort. Christopher also traveled overseas to perform humanitarian aid; he died doing what he loved, helping those in need.
Christopher was driven by an intense desire to be of service and to live a life of consequence. He was a warrior and an intellectual.
Christopher was a loving son, brother and uncle. To his friends he was a loyal lifelong companion. Everyone walked a little taller with Christopher’s caring support.
Christopher shared a unique bond with his brother Ian. They were best friends and confidants. They challenged each other, looked after one another, and loved each other beyond measure.
Christopher is survived by his father John Black, John’s wife Akasha Feeley, his mother Dierdre Black of Buenos Aires, his brother Ian Black and wife Elizabeth Black of San Diego, and his nephews Langston and William, and niece Cameron. As well, Chris’s great love and partner, Kat.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on March 21st at TACAW, 400 Robinson St Basalt CO at 11am. A scholarship fund has been established at Aspen Community Foundation, 455 Gold Rivers Court, Suite 515, Basalt CO 81621. Please note Chris Black Scholarship Fund on any contribution.
Keep Christopher in your thoughts and prayers. We as a family feel grateful to have had the time we had with him. Our lives and hearts have been filled with love by this funny, brave, handsome young man. Living without him will never be the same.
