June 25, 1938 – April 4, 2023

Donald Neil MacDougal (known as Neil or Mac for his entire life) entered the long climb upstairs on April 4, 2023. Neil was born in Ithaca, NY to Donald and Gwladys MacDougal on June 25, 1938 . Neil spent his childhood and early adult years in Ithaca – a wonderful place to grow up. The south end of one of New York’s fingerlakes , Cayuga Lake was 40 miles long and had a large influence on Neil and lifelong friends Ed Wilcox and George Little.

Neil graduated High School in Ithaca in 1956 and then attended Cornell University, where he graduated in 1960 with a degree in bio-chemistry.
He and Karen Harmening married in 1962 and Neil graduated University of Buffalo Dental School in 1968. After a one year internship in San Francisco, Neil and Karen returned to upstate New York (Syracuse).

Neil had a very successful dental practice for 27 years before retiring to Glenwood Springs Colorado. Until his health declined, Neil was an active member of the 100 Club and enjoyed all the activities the mountains offered, excelling in golf and downhill skiing.

Neil is survived by his wife Karen of 61 years, two children, Blake and Jill of Glenwood Springs, and two grandchildren, Piper and Cameron.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of the Valley, American Heart Association or the charity of your choice. All will be greatly appreciated.
