Dorthy Mae Shakespear Wimmer peacefully passed away 2/5/2025 at the age of 87. She leaves behind her children Warren (Lois) Wimmer, Patti (Dan) Buzzell, and Peggy Wimmer as well as 17 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. She was born in the town of Tropic at the base of Bryce Canyon National Park Utah. In her youth she worked at both Rubys Inn and The Pines at or near the park. She joined the Marines after high school but after multiple injuries was honorably discharged. She wed her husband of 44 years (William Edward Wimmer) and moved to Craig. When they moved to Rifle, she first worked at the Texan Restaurant then ultimately worked 31 years for Grand River Hospital District. She worked in many areas of the hospital but her first job was as the cook that made the first meal for the E.D. Moore Memorial Nursing Home residents in 1968. She graduated from Mesa College Nursing school at the age of 50 and ultimately became an OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner running a low risk OB/GYN clinic. She hand-stitched baby quilts for almost every baby that she helped bring into this world. She was an avid gardener often with over 1 acre of land planted. She canned everything she grew and gave away most of it to anyone she knew was hungry. She was very much loved by all who knew her and will be fiercely missed. Services will be held in April.
