Helen Martha Lawless Delaplane, born April 17, 1933, in Macksburg, located in Madison County, Iowa, passed away on February 15, 2025, at 91. She grew up in Iowa, moved to Colorado, and later settled in Olympia, Washington. Helen had a deep love for the covered bridges for which Madison County is famous. Her career included roles as a Certified Nursing Assistant and surgical assistant. She married David Woodward Delaplane in 1955, with whom she had four sons: Tim, Mark, Brian, and Glen. Helen was blessed with fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Known for her love of painting, crocheting, and football, she also had a passion for basketball. Helen played basketball in high school and went to the state tournament twice. She is survived by her sons Tim, Mark, and Glen, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Helen’s life will be celebrated at a later date, and donations can be made to the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation in her memory.
