Joe Bergeson, 48, of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, passed away on April 4, 2025 at Valley View Hospital, leaving behind memories, stories, and a quiet legacy of a life lived on his own terms.
Joe was many things in this life – a son, a brother, an uncle, a grandson, and a friend. Each of those roles held meaning, even across distance, and each is part of the story he leaves behind. Joe carved out a life that reflected who he was -independent, creative, and true to himself. He found joy in the little things: the perfect moment caught through his camera lens, the aroma of something good simmering on the stove, and the rhythm of music that always seemed to be playing somewhere in the background of his life.
Born in Belgium, Joe moved with his family to South Dakota when he was in elementary school. His life took him to many different places and those that he encountered share fond memories of their time with him. He especially loved the desert and felt at home in the beauty and solitude of the Southwest. Eventually, 15 years ago, Colorado became his home and he was embraced by people that became like family. He made so many friends within the Glenwood Springs community, more than he realized. Joe’s path was his own, and we honor the way he walked it – with quiet strength, passion, and authenticity. He will be missed by those who knew his heart and remembered always by those who carry him within theirs.
Joe is survived by his mother, Irene Maria Haile of Princeton, KY; father, Jim Bergeson of Oklahoma; brother, Jeffrey Bergeson of Whiting, IN; nieces and nephews, Eric, Austin, Paige, and Caden.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Two Rivers Park in Glenwood Springs at 1:30 pm on Sunday, May 18th.
