Obituary: Norma Lynn Salaz — Sept. 25, 1950 – Aug. 6, 2015
Norma, 64, passed of natural causes. She was born in Mount Harris, Colo. to Uvaldo and Mary Fresquez. She grew up in Minturn, then spent most of her life in Palisade and Grand Junction.
In Glenwood Springs Norma had worked at The Charcoal Burger and Doc Holidays. In Grand Junction she worked at The Outpost, The Branding Iron, La Fondas, Gibsons and Orchard Mesa Laundromat. Norma had been a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. She enjoyed the Mesa, crocheting, westerns, volunteering and Dos Hombres. Norma was previously married to Leroy Valencia (deceased), Ralph “Sam” Salaz and David Mlsna (deceased).
She is survived by daughter, Laurie Valencia; granddaughter, Chrystal (Raymond) Paul-Valdez; great-grandchildren, Marylynn Valdez and Raymond Valdez Jr. of Grand Junction. Also three siblings, Ruby (Alex) Lopez; Paul (Lucretia) Fresquez and Josie (Paul) Huffman. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Bertha (Smokey) Matheson and brother Vernon (Lois) Fresquez.
A celebration of her life will be at the VFW (14th Street and Ute Avenue, Grand Junction), Sunday, Sept. 20, from noon to 4 p.m. Food will be provided.
