Wilson (Bill) Walker Coleman

Bill Coleman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, 2024, in his home surrounded by his wife Phyllis and family.

Bill was born in Atchison, Kansas to Marjorie and Walker Coleman. Bill moved to Grand Junction, Colorado at a young age. His family then lived for a time at Camp Hale where his father, Walker Coleman, was the general’s personal driver. Bill and his brother learned to ski with the discarded skis of the 10th Mountain Division. His family then relocated to Glenwood Springs at the age of 7. Bill’s journey took him to CU Boulder where he received a degree in Business. He then joined the US Army where he was stationed in Germany. He returned to Glenwood Springs to work with his family overseeing the Coors Distributorship for the Western Slope. He then transitioned to a successful career as an insurance agent.

Bill was a generous, humble and kind man. With his wife Phyllis of 50 years, they raised four daughters. His work with his insurance clients was very caring and individualized and his community service through the Jaycees and then the Kiwanis, was well known. His time given to the United Methodist Church was done with joy. Bill’s legacy is one of love, family, community and faith. He will be missed by many, as the world was a better place with him in it.

Bill was preceded in death by his brother Robert (Bob) Foy Coleman, mother Marjorie Coleman, and father Walker Coleman. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Coleman and daughters; Donna (Mike) Volk, Gwen (Don) Van Valkenburg, Vicki (John) Swenson, and Julie (Larry) Fowler and by his grandchildren; Kendall (Zach) Van Valkenburg-Haglin, Connor (Chelsea) Swenson, and Maddie Swenson and his great grandchildren; Jax and Beau Swenson and Cameron Haglin. He is also survived by his sister Jody (Frank) Johnson & family.

The family invites you to a Celebration of Life at the Methodist Church in Glenwood Springs, March 8, 2025 at 2.30 pm.
