Peter ‘Doc’ McGuire


Peter “Doc” McGuire, 65, of Rifle, Colorado died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 22, 2013 from complications from surgery.

Doc was born on Sept. 12, 1947, in New York City. He is a native of Rockland County, New York, and grew up in Stony Point, New York. He graduated from high school in 1965. After serving in the Air Force in Vietnam, he attended Embry Riddle University in Daytona, Florida, then graduated from East Coast Aero Tech in Bedford, Massachusetts. While working at Hughes Aircraft during the late ’70s he lived in Tehran, Iran, and Kuwait City. He spent most of the 1980s and ’90s residing in the Granada Hills area of California, before retiring to Rifle, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents Thelma and Caesar Benincasa of Stony Point, New York. Doc is survived by his sister Liana Benincasa Ayres and two nieces, Emily Grace and Abigail Haile, all from Ocala, Florida.

Doc volunteered as a driver with VetTrans for the last 4 years making sure veterans had transportation to the VA Medical Hospital in Grand Junction and VA Medical Clinic in Glenwood Springs.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 6, at Noon at the Rifle Senior Center, 50 Ute Avenue, Rifle, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to VetTrans c/o Joe Carpenter, 216 W. 3rd Street, Rifle, Colorado 81650.
