Russell Lee Bilby (Jun 08, 1945 – Jul 21, 2017)

Russell Lee Bilby, age 72, passed away peacefully at home in Basalt, CO, on Friday, July 21, 2017. He was born on June 8, 1945, to Ernest and Eleta Bilby in Tulsa, OK. He graduated from Jenks High School in 1963, then became a USAF Sergeant from 1963-1967 while stationed in Hawaii. Russ worked in medical sales for over 30 years in Tulsa and retired to Carbondale, CO, to be closer to his children.

A musician at heart, he played the guitar and was often found singing or humming when he thought no one was listening. He enjoyed traveling, was a constant reader, and a scratch golfer. Russ was great mentor who considered his children to be his biggest accomplishment. He was a proud and devoted father and grandfather. Russ was a truly special soul who touched the lives of everyone he met. His laughter, bright smile, storytelling, and joy of life will be missed.

Russ is survived by his daughter Jennifer Bilby Horn and Eric Horn, and his son Christopher Lee Bilby and Mahala Savaiano Bilby and granddaughter Nora Grace Bilby of Carbondale, CO. Surviving siblings include Frances Champion, Leon Bilby, Alene Bilby, Marshaleta Taylor, Carmaleta Haralson, of Tulsa.

A memorial service will be held in Carbondale, CO, on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at 10am at Filoha Meadows Nature Preserve. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Russ’ name to HomeCare and Hospice of the Valley in Glenwood Springs, CO.
