Shannon Ruth Blizard

Shannon was born on Strawberry Day June 18, 1965, in Glenwood Springs, Colo. She passed away at her home in Fayetteville, N.C., on Aug. 1, 2014. She was a precious woman that loved all living creatures. Her caring presence and beautiful smile will be greatly missed.

Shannon married Airborne Ranger Michael Blizard at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs on July 24, 1989. Shannon loved following her husband’s military career. They were stationed in Arkansas, Louisiana, Alaska, Georgia and finally Fort Bragg in North Carolina. She was a dedicated military wife caring for their home and three sons while her husband spent six deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. She took great pride in being a part of the U.S. Army family and made friends all over the United States.

Shannon became a medical assistant and enjoyed working in the medical field. She also enjoyed camping, fishing and four-wheeling with her husband and sons. Shannon is survived by her husband, 1st Sargent Michael Blizard, sons Cole Blizard, Chase Blizard, and Chance Blizard, her mother Bonnie Embry, stepmother Denise Sellers, Aunt Barb Embry, Aunt Jean Gonzales, Uncle Danny Gonzales, and nephew Austin Wren. She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Gerald Sellers, and sister Rona Sellers.

A funeral Mass will be performed at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Saint Stephen’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Rosebud Cemetery next to her sister and grandparents. Memorial contributions can be sent to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
