Shirley D. Thomson
Shirley Thomson of Redstone passed peacefully on Friday, Jan. 2, at age 92. Born 10/11/1922 to James B. & Ethel Drake in Orchard Park, N.Y. Raised in Bloomfield, NJ, with a brother James G., sisters May Morabito & Jean O’Neill. Graduated Bloomfield High in 1940, & graduated Newark Secretarial School in 1941. Worked for AT&T of NY as a file clerk & did bookkeeping up until the day she died. Married David Thomson 6/26/1942. They were married for 62 yrs before he passed in 2004. Her 3 children are John E. Thomson, Janet Switzer, & JoAnn Funk. The extended family includes 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grands, & 2 great-great-grands. While living in Concordia, KS, in 1960s our family included Carlo Cerretti from Viterbo, Italy, as an American Field Service student.
The Thomsons worked & lived in many places: MA, NC, TX, NJ, Lima, Peru, SA, CO, KS, Iowa, and Colorado again! Redstone, CO, has been home since 1979. Shirley served as Treasurer for Marble C. church for over 37 yrs. also as treasurer for Redstone Community Assoc. for 10+ yrs. She also served 12+ on the Redstone Water & Sanitation Board. She applied for & got 3 grants. The water treatment plant is named after her. Memorial Service will be Jan. 11 at 1 PM at The Church at Redstone.
