William (Bill) John McKinley (October 17, 1933 — October 15, 2018)

Husband, Dad, Grandpa, “Uncle Bill,” Friend, Colleague, “Mr. Bill,” William J. McKinley of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, surrounded by family, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 15, 2018. He was born in Riverside, Illinois, on October 17, 1933 to George Arthur McKinley and Olga Marie Dynes, whom he loved dearly.

As a man who epitomized fun, a big smile, cheerful laugh and a good drink were always present. Whether on the water or in the mountains, Bill loved spending time outdoors, traveling with and entertaining friends and family. His trips to Lake Powell and Hawaii were some of his most memorable experiences. He loved to make others laugh and didn’t shy from a good joke.

Bill served in the US Army and attended Monmouth College, CU Boulder and the University of Denver. In 1960, Bill moved to Glenwood Springs with his first wife, Virginia Mitchell, when his family purchased the First National Bank. He owned the First Agency Insurance Company in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1976 he started William McKinley & Assoc., Ltd. Realtors.

In 1980, Bill married his true love and wife of 38 years, Linda Cary. His generosity was ever-present as he was an active member in the Jaycees and Elks organizations. With Linda by his side, he contributed to many other causes that were focused on making the world a better place. He cherished his time with all his children, including being able to be a full-time dad with his youngest daughter, Elli.

Bill was a student of life, devout reader, and teacher to everyone. He was always encouraging others to achieve their full potential, personally and professionally. When he entered a room Bill’s charisma was obvious to everybody. He knew what he wanted and never settled, especially when it came to food. He loved an outstanding meal with great company.

Throughout Bill’s life and care in his later years there were so many instrumental people who were devoted to his success. To each of you, you know who you are, the family extends their most heartfelt gratitude.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brother George, daughter Sandee, grandson Jeffrey, and nephews Ryan Arrowood and Bob McKinley.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda McKinley; daughter Loree (Tom) Herrmann of Arvada, CO; daughter Conee Kulaga of Albuquerque, NM; daughter Beckee (Tom) Breadon of Oro Valley, AZ; son John (Kelly) McKinley of Charlotte, NC; and daughter Elli McKinley of Carbondale, CO. He is also survived by grandchildren Jonathan (Katie) Herrmann, Monica Herrmann, Andrew Kulaga, Ashlee Kulaga, Kyle (Makenzie) McKinley and Kole McKinley, six nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Barb (Steve) Carmack and hundreds of dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will take place November 10th, from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Rivers Restaurant, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. If so inclined, please donate to YouthZone, a Republican candidate, or your charity of choice.
