Officials ID accident victim

Officials released the name of the Carbondale man who died Thursday in a motor accident on Highway 82. Julian Gonzalez-Santillan, 28, of Carbondale and was killed when the driver of the vehicle, Humberto Chavez, 38, of Carbondale swerved to avoid hitting an injured deer in the middle of the road.Chavez over-corrected his 1993 Toyota Camry, which crashed into a ditch and rolled, landing on its roof.Gonzalez-Santillan died at the scene, suffering fatal injuries because of the severe roof damage.Chavez, who suffered minor injuries and was transported to Valley View Hospital, swerved to hit a deer that was hit by another driver.The other driver did not attempt to remove the deer from the road.Chavez was going 74 mph in a 65 mph zone. He was cited for driving under revocation and no valid proof of insurance.
