Oktoberfest oompahs downtown Glenwood today

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – Oktoberfest rolls out today at Centennial Park, with an oompah band, folk dancing and traditional German food and drink.The sixth annual event runs from noon to 7 p.m. at Centennial Park and in the first block of Ninth Street just east of Grand Avenue. It’s hosted by Glenwood’s Downtown Market.The Missing Link Band will perform from noon until 3 p.m. Entertainment then turns back to traditional Oktoberfest music with Alpine Echo, a regional band featuring Glenwood Springs accordionist John Pataky, owner of Rosi’s Bavarian Inn, starting at 3:30 p.m and playing until 7 p.m. During Alpine Echo’s breaks, D’Miesbacher Oimataler, a club dedicated to preservation of Bavarian culture, will perform traditional German folk dances, including the Schuhplattler.The harvest festival also features traditional German food, so show up hungry.Andy’s Bavarian Deli of Breckenridge will serve various traditional Oktoberfest hot foods, and many of the Downtown Market’s regular hot food vendors will be set up too, serving crepes, tamales and gyros.The Glenwood Canyon Brew Pub will serve up many of its fine local brews, including Hanging Lake Honey Ale and St. James Irish Red. Woody Creek Cellars will serve wine, including a variety of German-style Rieslings. The event is sponsored by The Hotel Denver, Glenwood Canyon Brew Pub, Berthod Motors, Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge & Pool, Turtle’s Liquors, Bank of Colorado, the Glenwood Springs Mall and the Glenwood Springs Tourism Board.
