One dies in I-70 rollover near Rifle
RIFLE, Colorado – The driver died and the passenger was sent to the hospital after a one-vehicle rollover on Interstate 70 at West Rifle Sunday morning.An on-scene investigation revealed that a black Chrysler was traveling east on I-70 near Exit 87 when it went off the left side of the road. It traveled through the median for 609 feet before it vaulted 108 feet over Highway 6 and struck an embankment. The car rolled onto its top on the east side of Highway 6.After emergency services personnel extricated two male occupants, the Garfield County Coroner’s Office proclaimed the driver dead at the scene, while the passenger was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction with serious injuries.The cause is still under investigation.Names are being withheld pending notification of family members.
