Our leaders have more info on Iraq than we do

Dear Editor,

There is a principle that the strength of an opinion is inversely related to the person’s knowledge of the issue. Stated simply, the less we know, the stronger our opinion. The scary part is that “knowledge” is usually acquired from politically slanted and sensation-driven news sources.

People in this area, at least, seem to know what we, as a nation, should do in Iraq, and yet we have access to very little of the information our leadership is using to make the decision. We do not sit in council with world leaders or receive the wisdom of people of vast experience. We do not get the intelligence gathering of professional agents nor the consultation of brilliant scientists, and yet we are passionate in our opinions and pronounce them as if we had heard from the almighty.

Here we sit in the Roaring Fork and Colorado River valleys believing we have special enlightenment. Honest objectivity says that we should stand behind our leadership, who do have access to the necessary information, and, above all, pray for them to have wisdom.

By the way, if all the America-hating people who are so sure what the president should be doing will renounce their citizenship and move to their perceived paradise, I will put up $500 to start a fund for their one-way tickets.

God bless America.
