Ouray Ice Festival kicks off today
ALL |
The 16th annual Ouray Ice Festival begins today and continues through Sunday, Jan. 9.
The premiere ice climbing event is known as “the best in world” and brings climbers and nonclimbers from around the globe to Ouray.
In addition to world class competitive climbing, the Ouray Ice Festival offers clinics hosted by elite athletes. All clinics include complimentary use of the latest gear. Several renowned guest speakers are lined up, including local favorite Chad Peele and the Canadian legend Barry Blanchard. Conrad Anker also will be unveiling his fantastic full-length feature film on the search for George Mallory’s remains on Mount Everest.
The Saturday Night Petzl/Arcteryx “Zombie” party should “raise the dead.” Patrons should put down their picks and pull our their wallets to help support the Ouray Ice Park and Ouray Volunteer Fire Department during our community dinners and multiple auctions.
Kids are always welcome at the ice fest. The Ouray Ice Park and San Juan Mountain Guides will be hosting free introductory climbing for kids ages 8-17 years old.
Co-sponsors of the event alongside the Ouray Ice Park are Asolo Boots and Rock and Ice Magazine.
