There will be a night of thanksgiving and lightheartedness, plus a bonfire, tonight at dark at the old Cardiff Schoolhouse in Glenwood Springs.

To get there, walk the concrete bike path by the river in the Park East housing development, which is past the soccer field near Sopris Elementary School.

The 17th annual Day of Infamy snowshoe race will be held Sunday, Dec. 7 at Sunlight Mountain Resort. The race is an 8K race which winds through Babbish Gulch on Sunlight’s cross country trails.

Pre-register at Summit Canyon Mountaineering, or at the Sunlight day lodge beginning at 9 a.m. Dec. 7. Registration includes T-shirt and goodies bag.

The race begins at 10 a.m. with awards and prize drawing following the race.

Snowshoes will be provided for the race.

This race benefits Garfield County animal shelters ” CARE, Mid-Valley Animal Rescue, and Rifle Animal Shelter.

This year’s Turkey Day 5K race is set for Thanksgiving morning (Nov. 27) at 10 a.m. at the Glenwood Springs Golf Course. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

Registration for the race includes a scenic race course, a post-race party, friend and community camaraderie and metabolism. Proceeds benefit the Carbondale Community School.

The Sunlight Winter Sports Club’s Freestyle Team is signing up kids to be on the team for the 2008-09 season. The team is for kids, ages 10 to 18, and need to have an advanced ski or snowboard level.

Members are required to become a United States Snowboard Association member and have to register with the Sunlight Winter Sports team. Registration costs $1,000 if registered before Dec. 1, $1,050 after Dec. 1. Registration includes coaching and insurance for the students. There will be three slopestyle and three boardercross events throughout the season at Snowmass.

Practices will be every Saturday at Sunlight Mountain Resort with a mid-week training day for trampoline training in Rifle.
