Outdoors store seeks input on new name options

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – The family-owned Factory and Army Surplus store is asking customers to vote for a new name for the store, which celebrates its 35th year in business this year.

“We have loyal customers who have shopped with us since we opened our doors,” said Pat Long, whose family has owned the store since it opened in 1977. “They take some ownership in our store, and that’s why we invite everyone to weigh in.”

Long said the change is aimed at finding a new name that better represents the store’s inventory of mid-priced adventure, camping and outdoor equipment, tools, clothing and footwear.

At this point, said Long, army surplus products comprise less than 1 percent of the store’s sales.

Three names, each with slogans, are in the running to be the new store name:

• Factory Outdoors, and the slogan: Outdoor gear, clothing and footwear

• Independent Outdoors, and the slogan: Come in here before you get out there

• Blue Planet Outdoors, and the slogan: Get out there

Customers can vote at the store on online at http://www.FASVote.com.

Every customer who votes will get a $5 coupon good through Aug. 13.

Long plans to announce the new store name on Saturday, Sept. 1, along with hosting a birthday party for the store.

This fall, Long plans to replace the outdoor sign with the new store name and brand, and revamp the exterior of the building.

Factory and Army Surplus is located at 2828 S. Glen Ave. in Glenwood Springs.
