GLENWOOD SPRINGS – School districts in Garfield County are constantly dealing with growth. And Roaring Fork School District Re-1 administration requested the help of Strategic Resources West Inc. to help them come up with a plan on how to do that. The report stated that RFSD’s total enrollment is expected to increase by about 8 percent by the year 2013. And it provides the school district administration valuable information needed to adequately plan for that future growth.”I think the purpose of working with (SRW) is they have the resources and the knowledge to accurately put together the information that is vital to planning the future of the district,” said RFSD superintendent Judy Haptonstall. “If we had someone from the district that could do it, that would be great. But it takes a considerable amount of time and no one here has that amount of time to give to it.”The district commissioned SRW for $18,120 and the report took approximately three months to complete. But the overall product is going to be invaluable, according to Haptonstall.”The last bond passed was $86 million. That is a lot of money,” Haptonstall said. “You don’t want to go into those kinds of decisions with information that isn’t accurate.”SRW is the same consulting firm RFSD used when planning the 2004 bond issue. SRW works with districts across the state and Haptonstall was satisfied with the recent report.”(The school board) was pleased with it, (SRW) did a good job of forecasting,” Haptonstall said. “They work with districts all over the state, so they’ve got a pretty good sense of what’s accurate and what’s risky.”Included in the report is data on economics and demographics of Garfield County, historical enrollment analysis and projections for RFSD including districtwide and individual school forecasts through 2013, facility adequacy with general planning implications, and projected future housing developments.A draft of the report was presented to the RFSD school board on Tuesday, with a final version to be returned to the district in coming weeks.Contact John Gardner: 384-9114jgardner@postindependent.comPost Independent, Glenwood Springs, Colorado CO
