Override is `What’s best for kids’

Dear Editor,

Living in Rifle for nearly 25 years has given us an appreciation for the people, the values and the culture of this area. We are proud that both of our children have been educated in the Garfield Re-2 schools and pleased to be associated with a school district that asks, “What’s best for kids?” when making decisions.

“What’s best for kids?” is the question each voter must answer very soon. Hopefully, when looking at what will be provided with the override versus what the picture might look like with no additional funds, there will be no problem answering, “What’s best for kids?”

Is it best for kids to offer competitive salaries to their dedicated teachers and excellent staff or limit their previously frozen salaries for another year, resulting in the lowest average salary on the Western Slope?

Is it best to provide school resource officers that enhance safety and security in all our middle schools and high schools or call the police to come to the schools after problems have occurred?

Is it best to offer the same quality programs at Coal Ridge High School as Rifle High School or limit what will be offered at both schools, increasing class sizes with fees for athletics, activities and transportation?

What’s best for kids seems pretty clear. Voting for the mill levy will provide the resources for Garfield Re-2 to offer our kids the very best education possible.

Warren and Jeanie Humble
