Owen Holgate, 81, passed away Aug. 10, 2007, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.Owen was born Dec. 21, 1925, to Winona (Roberts) and Fred Holgate. He spent his life in the Roaring Fork Valley. He was an auto mechanic for many years. Owen served in the United States Army during World War II in Europe as an Army private.He married Jean Hampton Ervin on Jan, 20, 1949. Owen was welcomed into this marriage by Jean’s son, Tom. A daughter, Karen, was later born into the union. Owen and Jean had been married 58 years.Owen was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved the outdoors, hand-feeding wildlife and spending time with his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife of Delta; son; daughter; sister Cora Natal of Glenwood Springs; grandchildren Jeff (Kelly), Jennifer (Ted), Steve (Monica), Chris (Mona) and Sara (Kurt); and great-grandchildren Dylan, Caleb, Aaron, Drake, Laiken, Dalton, Reagan, Landan and Logan, all of whom he adored. He will be greatly missed by each of them. Owen was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, at Farnum-Holt Mortuary Chapel in Glenwood Springs, with Edgel Pyle presiding. Services will conclude at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Owen’s memory to the American Stroke Association, 123 N. Seventh St., Grand Junction, CO 81501.
