Parachute approves water and sewage rate increase

PARACHUTE – The town approved a 5 percent rate increase for water and sewer users.The increase will make the residential water bill $27 per month and the residential sewer bill $31 per month.Residential properties are not metered, said town clerk Juanita Satterfield. But commercial properties are tracked and charges increase based on usage.The last rate increase in Parachute was in January 2004; it was also was 5 percent, Satterfield said.”It’s to cover increases in operational expenses,” Satterfield said. “They just keep getting more expensive.”The town offers reduced rates for those who qualify. The reduced residential rate for water is $18 per month and $18.44 for sewer. Satterfield said forms to qualify for assistance are available at town hall.
