Parade today for Olympic snowbaorder Jason Smith

BASALT ” The Town of Basalt is hosting a parade honoring Olympic snowbaorder Jason Smith at 4 p.m. today on Midland Avenue with a police and fire escort.

Smith, a 2000 Basalt High School graduate, represented the United States in the Olympic Games last month in Torino, Italy. Among the top boardercross riders in the world, Smith finished in sixth place, and was the second best American rider behind Gold Medal winner Seth Wescott.



Following the parade, Smith will receive a town proclamation from Mayor Leroy Duroux and autograph photos at Town Center Booksellers at 211 Midland Ave., Basalt.

Smith departs after the ceremony for two more World Cup competions in Lake Placid, New York and Japan.
