Parker’s comments on gay marriage made sense

Dear Editor,

Stop the world. I want to get back on!

On your Aug. 13 Commentary page, columnist Kathleen Parker brought a “semblance of sanity” into the gay marriage issue. It was refreshing to get a logical, common sense, insightful approach on a subject that has been beaten to death with bias rhetoric.

Although it is “lonely down here” on Earth, I’d rather be from here than from Mars or Venus or in Oz, even if I am labeled. At least it gives me recognition and some form of identity, as opposed to those who maintain silence, so as not to offend or upset anyone. If speaking out on an issue results in an “either/or” label, then not expressing any opinion should represent a “minion/nonentity” labeling option.

I am further encouraged by her comments that “people are not wrong” in being concerned, and that in this “Gay Moment” era, “it is not homophobic to suggest that we may have lost our minds.”

Kathleen Parker’s commentary is stimulating and thought provoking, with just the proper blend of humor.

Sincerely objective and also opinionated,

Richard D. Doran
