Pedestrian dies after being struck by snowplow in West Vail
A pedestrian died after reportedly being struck by a snowplow Wednesday morning in Vail, according to a news release from the town.
Emergency responders were called to Glacier Court around 8:30 a.m. where a town of Vail snowplow was said to have struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian died at the scene, according to the release.
Lions Ridge Loop at the intersection of Glacier Court was closed for most of the morning but reopened shortly after noon.
The Vail Police Department requested that the Colorado State Patrol lead the investigation into the incident.
According to the news release sent at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, this is the first snowplow-related fatality in Vail. The driver had more than five years of experience operating a plow.
“This was a heartbreaking accident, and our deepest condolences go out to the individual’s family and friends,” said Vail Town Manager Russell Forrest.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Eagle County Coroner’s Office after the family has been notified.
