People, not politics, degrade morals

Dear Editor,

I read with great interest Tonya Wernsmann’s letter about kids playing with flyswatters. I was briefly taken back to my childhood days, before TV, boomboxes, pants so baggy you could hide a skateboard in them. When morals and values were important. When living in this country was an honor and a privilege. When saying the Pledge of Allegiance under God was important.

But then I snapped back to reality when Ms. Wernsmann concluded her letter with her political views. Why do some always blame the lack of morals and values on politics? Politicians are elected by us. Baseball players are paid by us. Corporations all exist because we buy their products. We the citizens of this country have the power to change it all if we choose. We are responsible for the lack of morals and values in our children.

Flyswatters? Mmmm!

Perhaps if our last president, Bill Clinton, had this piece of equipment available to him he could have swatted his own fly a few times and perhaps kept it zipped up while he was in the Oval Office instead of having to embarrass himself by lying under oath to the citizens of the United States about his involvement with a certain intern. Talk about a lack of morals and values.

Flyswatters? Absolutely!
