Pet adoption process tailored for animals

Pattye Lacy and Leslie Rockey

Dear Editor,

Colorado Animal Rescue, Inc. would like to take this opportunity to respond to the letter to the editor dated Aug. 4.

We have an adoption process that starts with the adopter finding a cat that they would like to adopt and then completing an application. This application, along with questions and conversation, provides the staff with the necessary information to hopefully place an animal in a permanent loving home.

Since we opened three years ago, we have tailored our adoption process for the cats to address the issue of whether or not a cat should be an indoor only or indoor/outdoor cat.

Given the environment we live in here in the Roaring Fork Valley with natural predators, such as coyote, fox, large birds of prey and mountain lions, not to mention automobiles and disease, we review each cat adoption on a case-by-case basis to determine if an adopter lives in what we consider a high risk area.

It is our goal to assure a long, healthy and secure life for each cat we adopt and a happy relationship with their owner.

With warm regards,

Pattye Lacy and Leslie Rockey
