Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado
John Colson Post IndependentRancher Bill Fales of Carbondale speaks to approximately 300 area residents at a rally held Saturday morning in Carbondale. The activists are aimed at keeping gas drilling activities out of the Thompson Divide area southwest of town. Organized by Community for Thompson Divide, the rally moved on to Main Street, where the crowd was followed by a phalanx of tractors down the street during the town's Oktoberfest celebration. Fales, along with several other area ranchers, has long been a supporter of the Thompson Divide Coalition, which is working to preserve more than 220,000 acres of public lands from oil and gas exploration, leaving it in its current undeveloped state for use by ranchers, hikers, equestrians and others.
