Pickering unfairly picked on
A highly qualified nominee to the Appeals Court judgeship has been ignominiously labeled unfit for the post by the least morally fit to cast the first stone: Chappaquiddick swimmer Ted Kennedy. He who was reported nationwide as having driven off a waterway bridge and exited the car, leaving a physically impaired woman to drown as he swam a quarter mile or more to safety. A late filing the next day clouds this person’s right to criticize any individual, let alone Mississippi Judge Charles Pickering.
Judge Pickering receives endorsement from all spectrums of race, civil rights, civic personalities, and in glowing language. The American Bar Association universally offered full support to this politically black-balled, compassionate, upright individual.
It is frustrating to folk who, such as this 86-year-old senior, try to be informed on important matters such as this that are hoodwinked by a scurrilous media that fails to publish the names of all members of the Senate’s infamous Judiciary Committee, thus protecting each individual from receiving proper intense scrutiny from constituents and the nation. Charles Pickering is no bigot, but those 10 lockstep Democratic knee-jerk committee members wear that appellation nicely.
Members of that group, folk of color, turn a deaf ear to constituents of the same race who beg that Judge Charles Pickering’s nomination proceed to a floor vote of the full Senate are likely to regret this in November.
Post Independent editor, will you publish the names of those Senate “dogs in the country’s manger” denying due process to this gentleman of quality?
John J. Wilson
