Pipe laid at Bair Chase

Staff Report

Groundbreaking at Bair Chase is still weeks or months away at the earliest, despite stacked pipes, and earthmoving equipment that started prowling the property last week.

The pipe being laid is a culvert for the 2,500 feet of Glenwood Ditch Company irrigation ditch that runs through the property, said Mark Gould, whose excavation company was hired for the project.

“We’re just burying an irrigation ditch,” Gould said. “We should be finished next Friday.”

Bair Chase spokesperson Jim Wells said the ditch work has been needed for quite some time. “It has nothing to do with the start of our construction,” he said.

Bair Chase is located on Highway 82 at Cattle Creek. The project covers 285 acres, and calls for 230 housing units and a golf course.

Garfield County commissioners gave planned unit development approval in 2001, but the project has been largely dormant ever since.
