Pitkin County real estate up for second consecutive month

Real estate activity for Pitkin County showed another month of increases in October, as compared to 2008.

Total dollars for October came in at $126.6 million, which is up 43 percent from October 2008’s dollar volume of $86.5 million.

Transaction activity was also up from last October, nearly 15 percent. The October 2009 total came in at 78 versus 2008’s 68.

This is the second month of 2009 with increases in both categories, the first being September.

For the year, Pitkin County is still reporting a decrease in both dollars and transactions. Dollar volume through September is approximately $910 million, which is down 23 percent from the same time period in 2008. Transactions for the year total 570, a decrease of 20 percent from 2008.
