Piton Foundation to give presentation at Re-1 meeting

Representatives from the Piton Foundation, a company that turns around low performing schools, will give a presentation during the Roaring Fork School District Re-1 board meeting tonight.The Piton Foundation has worked with some Denver Public Schools. These schools have rapidly increasing minority populations and as a result, see parents of the new minority send their kids to private, charter or other schools.Advocates for Carbondale Education suggested that the Piton Foundation talk with the Re-1 school board.The board agreed to discuss Carbondale’s changing demographics to draw students back to Carbondale schools.At 6:30 the school board will attend a lecture by Alan Gottlieb of the Piton Foundation. Gottlieb is well known for turning low performing schools into high performing schools.Gottlieb will speak in the middle of the meeting. The board will continue with its regular meeting after hearing from Gottlieb.The board will consider approval of a State Historical Fund Grand for the Little Red School House. The Little Red School house is in Basalt on Carbondale Elementary’s campus. The community’s expressed concern about what will happen to the Little Red School House if the Re-1 $86 million bond passes.The district is exploring options for the house.
