Plane crashes in Flat Tops snowstorm

GARFIELD COUNTY – A small-frame aircraft crashed in the Flat Top Wilderness Sunday afternoon in the midst of a snowstorm. Reports of injuries were not available Sunday evening.At about 4 p.m. somebody called 911 and reported seeing black smoke and possibly the plane crash near mile marker 12 on Deep Creek Road, police said. According to police reports, the pilot of the plane declared an emergency and contacted a control tower in Denver saying they “were going down.”The plane was described as a small-frame aircraft.No more information was available as of Sunday evening.
