Plenty of other affordable housing planned in Glenwood

Dear Editor,

An out-of-state bank developing Red Feather Ridge, MidFirst Bank of Oklahoma, approached City Council about annexing their land on Four Mile Road into city limits, hoping to nearly triple the houses allowed. Simply, they had underwritten a project at this location that went in to default and needed a way to recoup their losses. The astounding result of the annex request is that City Council approved it.

Taking criticism, council agreed to take the issue to vote. To persuade voters, MidFirst has been offering “perks” in exchange for what will become a massive subdivision and increased congestion.

While MidFirst claims we need moderately priced housing, other projects have already been approved with that intent. When completed, Glenwood Meadows, Cardiff Glen, Park East, Western Pines, and Glenwood Estates will add approximately 725 average to affordable homes and units within our city limits.

This does not address undeveloped land in the city yet to be considered for housing.

If Red Feather Ridge is not annexed, they will still be able to build 57 family homes on their property. That density is in keeping with existing neighborhoods along the beautiful, rural Four Mile Road.

It is not the responsibility of our residents to ease a loan deficit of an out-of-state bank. It is our responsibility to be stewards of our city and its extraordinary surroundings. We must continue to plan intelligently for growth, and be the voice of our community. Vote “no” on Red Feather Ridge.
