Police make an arrest in Rifle in valleywide burglary case

Authorities are still searching for five more suspectsBy John GardnerGlenwood Springs, CO ColoradoRIFLE – Glenwood Springs Police Department received a hand from the Rifle Police Department Friday evening with bringing in another of the 10 suspects sought for burglaries throughout Garfield County.Rifle Police arrested Sean Egan, 19, around 4 p.m. while he was at work in Rifle. GSPD chief Terry Wilson said that they received a tip that Egan was working in Rifle. From there, nothing more than a phone call to the RPD was needed.”He’ll be headed this way posthaste,” Wilson said about Egan making his way to the Garfield County Jail.”I’m glad we were able to get him off the streets so he won’t be able to victimize the community any longer,” Wilson said.Egan is the fifth suspect arrested in connection with a string of 38 burglaries throughout Garfield County since July of 2006. In all, three arrest warrants were issued for Egan. One by GSPD issued in the burglary cases last week, Carbondale Police were working on obtaining a warrant for Egan in connection with burglaries in Carbondale, which were part of the string of 38 burglaries. And GSPD issued another warrant for Egan on a auto-theft charge completely separate from the other cases.”When you go into something like this, with the high number of people involved, you don’t want them to scatter and run before you can round them all up,” Wilson said.Wilson added that the entire investigation was a collective effort by all law enforcement departments in Garfield County. And he was glad that another arrest had been made.”He was high on our list of those we wanted to track down,” Wilson said. “We’ll continue to work with the other agencies and continue to work until we get the rest of them.”So far, police have arrested Bradley Guyon, 19, William Riddle, 18, David Iuele, 19, and another 17-year-old male along with Egan. Authorities are still searching for five more suspects thought to have some connection with the burglaries that victimized several merchants in Glenwood and Carbondale.Suspects are charged with multiple counts of second-degree burglary, a class-four felony, multiple counts of theft, a class-four felony; multiple counts of conspiracy, a class-five felony; multiple counts of second degree trespass, a class-three misdemeanor; multiple counts of criminal mischief, a class-two misdemeanor; and multiple counts of additional charges specific to individual crimes.On top of those charges, Egan will also be charged with one count of auto theft.Contact John Gardner: 384-9114jgardner@postindependent.comPost Independent, Glenwood Springs, Colorado CO
