Police officer in Rifle shot and wounded

RIFLE, Colo. (AP) – A police officer in the western Colorado town of Rifle is recovering after he was shot while investigating a domestic violence report.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s official Tanny M. McGinnis says the officer, who is in his 20s, is in good condition following the shooting around 8:20 p.m. Friday in Rifle.

Authorities quickly secured the area after the shooting and a suspect who police say acted alone was arrested.

McGinnis says the policeman “is in good condition and we’re so very grateful.”

The office declined to release any other details about the officer or the shooting, and said more information will be available later Saturday.

A press conference will be held today at 3 p.m. Check back at http://www.postindependent.com for details.
