Polo matches today at Stout Ranch
On Friday the Post Independent ran a story about the Hotel Colorado’s Devereux Cup, a polo event at the Stout Ranch south of New Castle. The story listed the place of the event but not the time. The consolation, final consolation, and final matches will be played at the Roaring Fork Polo Club on the Stout Ranch beginning at 11 a.m. today. Each match consists of six 7-minute chuckers. The public is invited to watch the games at Stout Ranch. The dress is casual, and be sure to bring a bite to eat, as sideline tailgating and picnics are the custom. To get to the ranch (2000 Baldy Creek Road), drive a sturdy car (four-wheel drive is recommended), to the New Castle exit on Interstate 70. From the exit go south and take a right at Colorado River Road. Go two miles, past Apple Tree Park, and take a left on Garfield Creek Road. Go five miles and take a right at the “Y” onto Baldy Creek Road. Two more miles and you’ll see a stack of boulders on the right side of the road and, if you look closely, a sign with an arrow that says “Stout.” Follow that road up to the ranch.
