Post Independent, Citizen Telegram win 14 Colorado Press Association awards

The Post Independent's Excellence in Photo and Design recognition given by the Colorado Press Association.

Writers, photographers and editors of the Glenwood Springs Post Independent and Rifle Citizen Telegram newspapers nabbed 14 Colorado Press Association awards for their work in 2022.

The awards, given during the 145th Annual Convention in Denver on Saturday, are for the Better News Media Contest. The statewide contest was judged by the New York Press Association and featured eight classes based on circulation size and publishing schedules.

Post Independent Reporter Cass Ballard won two awards. She took first place in the Best Health Enterprise/Health Feature Story category and second place for Best Agriculture Story.



Former Post Independent Photographer Chelsea Self also won two awards. She took first place for Best Photo Slideshow-Gallery or Photo Essay and second place in the same category.

Former Post Independent Editor John Stroud nabbed one award. He took first place for Best Education Story.



Current Post Independent and Citizen Telegram Editor Ray Erku won eight awards.

For the Post Independent, Erku took first place in the following categories: Best Sports or Sports Event Story, Best Sports Column Writing, Best Sports Photograph and Best Humorous Column Writing. For the same newspaper, Erku took second place for Best Sports or Sports Event Story.

For the Citizen Telegram, Erku won first place for Best Education Story, Best Feature Photograph and Best Environmental Story.

To put the cherry on top, the Post Independent was recognized with an Excellence in Photo and Design team award.
