Post Independent honored for AP news contributions

Staff and Wire Report

The Associated Press Managing Editors association awarded a citation to the Glenwood Springs Post Independent and 409 other newspapers and broadcast stations Wednesday for outstanding contributions to the Associated Press report.

The awards were announced at the annual APME conference being held in Baltimore, Md.

“I nominated the PI for its continued help through the year, particularly in sharing news about the Coal Seam Fire,” said AP Denver Bureau chief Peter Mattiace.

“The PI is one of the best small daily papers in Colorado, and an integral part of the national news network,” Mattiace said.

“We rely on the Associated Press to keep us informed about the world around us,” said Post Independent managing editor Heather McGregor. “And when the top story of the day is happening here, we do our best to share that news with our fellow AP members.”

The APME comprises managing editors and other news executives of the 1,550 member newspapers of the AP, the world’s oldest and largest newsgathering organization.

The AP is a cooperative agency whose members provide coverage of news in their areas for distribution through AP bureaus in their states.
