On Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, the United States and its friends around the world will mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The Post Independent will publish a commemorative package of articles about the terrorist attacks on that 10th anniversary day.

We invite the paper’s readers to submit their memories of that day in a mini-essay of 50 to 200 words. We will print as many as we have space for.

Readers can submit their mini-essays through the newspaper website, through email, U.S. mail or by hand delivery to the newspaper office.

The question to address in the essay is: What are your memories of Sept. 11, 2001?

Essays must be received by the Post Independent no later than 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The essay entry must include three things: the writer’s first and last name, age and community of residence.

Please also include a daytime phone number or email address so we can contact you if we have a question. That contact information won’t be published.

To submit online, visit, scroll down to the “Features” section and click on the “Contribute your memories of Sept. 11” link, and then fill out the online form. We encourage readers who submit this way to write their essay in advance, take time to reread and polish it, and then copy and paste it into the form.

Readers can also send their essay, along with identifying and contact information, by email to

By mail, address your entry to Glenwood Springs Post Independent Sept. 11 Memories, 2014 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs, Colo. 81601. We suggest mail entries be posted no later than Saturday, Sept. 3.

Entries may also be hand-delivered to our office at 2014 Grand Ave., across the street from Safeway. We are open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and there is an after-hours drop box by the front door.

We all have unique memories of that terrible day and what it has meant for our country in the ensuing 10 years. We look forward to sharing your memories with other readers in the pages of the Post Independent.
