Post Independent Opinion: A chance to give us your opinions
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado
As reported in Tuesday’s paper, the Post Independent is conducting an online readership survey during the month of March. Readership surveys are something we try to do every so often to get a feel for what our readers think about the paper.
This year, the survey is more important than ever. Over the past two years, the Post Independent has undergone some significant changes, and we want to know specifically what you think about those changes.
The survey asks standard questions about what is important to you in your community paper and how well we provide those things, but it also asks questions specifically aimed at some of the changes we have made.
When the recession was in full swing, we combined advertising, production and printing of the Post Independent with The Aspen Times. This shared edition offers additional value to our advertisers. When they purchase an ad in the Post Independent, it also runs in The Aspen Times for no added cost. The shared edition also cut our costs for production and distribution.
The combination has achieved both these goals, but we are concerned that it has not been an overall positive for many of our readers. We have designed this survey to learn whether or not you like the changes overall.
In considering these changes, you may recall that by combining the advertising of the two papers, the Post Independent became a much larger paper. That has allowed us to carry stories from other newspapers in the region along with more regional, state and national news.
Therefore, if we separate the papers again and remove the ads placed only to reach Aspen Times readers, the Post Independent may feel more “local,” but it will also be much smaller and will not have the space to run as many of those additional stories.
So please take a few minutes sometime this month to complete our reader survey and tell us your thoughts. You can reach the online survey through our website, http://www.postindependent.com, and then click on “Win an iPad” in the Features section, or find the survey start page directly at readersurvey.aspenglenwood.sgizmo.com/s3/.
We are conducting similar surveys for both Post Independent and Aspen Times readers, so please choose the Post Independent survey as your first response. If you also read or care about The Aspen Times, you are welcome to take the survey a second time for The Aspen Times.
If you are interested, you can also register for a chance to win an Apple iPad once you complete the survey. It’s our way of saying thank you.
This survey is extremely important to us. We know that we have a tremendous responsibility in being our community’s best source for news and information. We consider it an honor and a privilege, and we want to produce the most relevant paper possible, so please help us to do that by letting us know what you think.
