Online graduate study
The University of Denver representatives will host an informational meeting about on-line graduate programs from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the Glenwood Springs Community Center. RFTA bus service changes
RFTA bus service between Aspen and El Jebel will run hourly instead of half-hourly, after 8:15 p.m. from Sept. 3 to Nov. 27. After 8:15 p.m., downvalley service will be available at 15 minutes after the hour. For information call 920-5038.
Speeder slide show
A slide show entitled “A Speeder Ride on the Roaring Fork Railroad” will be presented by Lisa Hayes at the monthly meeting of the Western Colorado Chapter, National Railway Historical Society. The train-loving public is invited to the meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the Roaring Fork Re-1 School District office, 14th and Grand in Glenwood Springs.
FEMA deadline in one week
Colorado residents and businesses affected by this year’s wildfires to must register for federal and state disaster assistance by Sept. 9. Renters, homeowners and businesses that suffered losses due to the disasters can register by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Scrapbook groups meets
A scrapbook group, “Crops,” will be offered from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on the first and third Monday of the month, starting Sept. 2, at the Glenwood Springs Community Center. New and seasoned scrapbookers are welcome. Drop-in fee is $3. For information, call Marie Leavitt at 384-2035.
Spellbinders offers storytelling workshop
A training workshop for Spellbinders volunteers is from 9 a.m.-noon on Tuesday, Sept. 10, Thursday, Sept. 12, and Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glenwood Springs. Spellbinders is a volunteer storytelling organization that trains community members to tell stories of their choice, from folktales to personal experiences, in classrooms, libraries or other supervised settings, where they may be told in an informal, intimate way. Spellbinders’ goal is to renew the ancient oral tradition of passing the wisdom, values, and humor from one generation to another. Call 963-3684 for information and registration.
Club 20 hosts candidates
Club 20 will host national and state political candidates at its 50th annual meeting Sept. 7 at the Adams Mark Hotel in Grand Junction. Two evening debates will take place at 6 p.m. at the Avalon Theater between U.S. senate candidates Wayne Allard and Tom Strickland and gubernatorial candidates Bill Owens and Rollie Heath.
