Power goes out in Rifle Wednesday

Heidi Rice Post IndependentNorm Antonelli, a lineman for Xcel Energy, works on a power line in the alley behind west Third Street Wednesday morning. The power went out around 3 a.m. and was expected to stay out until late Wednesday afternoon, causing several downtown businesses to close.

RIFLE, Colorado – Several businesses were closed downtown on Wednesday after a faulty power line caused an outage for most of the day on the east and west blocks of Third Street.”Closed due to loss of electricity. Hopefully it will be back on Thursday. Sorry for the inconvenience,” a sign read at Rifle Lock & Key on West Third Street.The street lights were also out at Third Street and Railroad, forcing everyone to play nice at the intersection.”It went out around 3:30 a.m.,” said Norm Antonelli, a lineman for Xcel Energy who was working on the line in the alley between Second and Third streets. “It’s due to a faulty underground cable.”The area affected ran about 300 feet between West Third Street and East Third Street.As of late Wednesday morning, the power was not expected to be restored until later in the afternoon.Power goes out in Rifle Wednesday
