Three men, weighing collectively about 900 pounds, are tearing phone books in half, shattering blocks of ice with their elbows and rolling skillets into burritos in New Castle. The New Creation Church is sponsoring three members of the Power Team – an evangelical strength group – for 7 p.m. presentations that started Thursday and run through Sunday.Power Team members also presented at Rifle High School and Roaring Fork High School Thursday, talking to kids about peer pressure, drug and alcohol abuse and academic excellence and achievement, said Eddie Dalcour, the group’s road manager.”I can get up there in a suit and tie,” said Joseph Koronkiewicz, organizer of the events for the church and schools. “I could wear Armani, even. If I start telling them about these things, they’re going to zone out.”Koronkiewicz said the Power Team’s “amazing feats of strength” get kids’ attention. The idea behind the Power Team’s presence at New Creation Church is much the same.”It brings people into the church who wouldn’t normally come,” Dalcour said. “Between the amazing feats of strength, Power Team members present their testimonials and offer messages of salvation.”Admission is free, though donations are welcome.Contact Amanda Holt Miller at 625-3245 ext. 103ahmiller@postindependent.com
